What a Year!

What a Year!

What a special year this has been for the New York Building Congress!

We celebrated the 100th anniversary of our organization, the amazing feats our industry accomplished over that time and the vital contributions we have made to New York. Whether it was our exhibit, documentary or commemorative book, this was surely a special year for the Building Congress. This Centennial also came as we continued to address the COVID-19 pandemic, its economic fallout and the dire need for equity within the building industry.

As we wrap up 2021, we are prepared for a 2022 that will see our organization, our industry and our city reach even greater heights. But before we do, let's take a look at everything we accomplished together this year.

Research and Publications

The Building Congress 2021-2023 New York City Construction Outlook gave the Big Apple a blueprint for recovery, as the building industry continued to bounce back after being put on hold for a significant part of 2020. We forecast that $174.1 billion will be spent on construction in New York City from this year through 2023 — one of the highest periods on record and a signal that our industry will be crucial to our national recovery.

The Building Congress also wrapped up its eight-part Building the Future of New York series. These thought-provoking publications discussed trends in design and construction, areas where the city can build stronger and the future of our infrastructure. Reports in the city released this year explored new ways the City of New York can attain its sustainability goals and how the healthy building movement is gaining traction across the industry.

Lastly, we released our New York Building Congress Across America report, which surveyed 73 organizations represented on the Board of Directors as well as the New York Building Foundation Board of Governors. This sampling showed the national presence of our members, with the report playing a crucial role in advocating for the national infrastructure bill.
