Annual Report 2006
Research And Policy
The New York Building Congress is increasingly being recognized and relied upon by industry members, public officials and the media as a timely, relevant and accurate source for information on the design, construction and real estate industry. In turn, the Building Congress is growing in influence as a major voice on key policy decisions in City Hall and in Albany.
In January of 2006, the Building Congress produced the third installment of its respected Electricity Outlook series.
The 2006 edition went far beyond the usual five-year horizon to examine the City’s power needs over the next 20 to 25 years. The purpose was to demonstrate the urgency to work now to accommodate the power demands spurred by such major development initiatives as the World Trade Center, Atlantic Yards and Hudson Yards, as well as planned growth in population, jobs, housing and infrastructure.
The Building Congress also continues to publish its annual New York City Construction Outlook, which now involves periodic interim updates as developments warrant. Construction Outlook is widely quoted in the press in part because it has established a strong track record for accuracy.
