The Building Foundation was created by construction industry leaders in part to marshal the diverse talents and energies of local firms and trade unions toward projects that give back to the community. The Foundation primarily focuses on three program areas:

Research & Analysis
In seeking to better serve the industry and contribute to public debate on issues concerning design and construction, as well as the City's economic future, the New York Building Foundation has made research and analysis a major part of its efforts.

Support for Tomorrow's Leaders
The Foundation strongly supports the development of the next generation of industry leaders. This goal is accomplished most directly by the Hennessy Fund, through which the Foundation provides opportunities and funding for professional fellowships and student internships within the design, construction and real estate industry.

Mysore Nagaraja, President of the MTA's Capital Construction Company and Frank Lombardi, Chief Engineer at the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, were honored at the New York Building Foundation Theatre Benefit on March 9, 2004.

The Foundation also sponsors one or more annual scholarships as part of the ACE Mentor Program. In addition, and in partnership with the New York Building Congress, an ACE scholarship is awarded each year in the names of the recipients of the George A. Fox Public Service Award, given at the Building Congress Anniversary Leadership Awards Luncheon.

Targeted Philanthropy
The Foundation uses the skills, time and resources of leaders in design, construction and real estate to strengthen and preserve the industry and the City. In addition to supporting educational and mentoring programs, the Foundation has in the past financially supported and honored the families of industry members who were lost on 9/11 and participated in building projects on behalf of organizations that serve the community. In 2005, the Foundation will be contributing the money remaining in its World Trade Center Memorial Fund to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation.
