New York Building Foundation

In 1999, two major reconstruction projects valued at more than $500,000 were completed thanks to the coordination of the Building Foundation and the hard work of its members.

The Partnership for the Homeless
Led by Bradford Construction, Peter's Place, which is a drop-in center for frail and elderly homeless New Yorkers operated by The Partnership for the Homeless, underwent major reconstruction of its kitchen and dining area. Tile flooring also was installed, and the bathrooms were outfitted with new showers and lockers. The renovations, which included electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, asbestos testing and painting, were valued at $300,000.

In addition to Bradford, which acted as construction manager, services were provided by the New York City & Vicinity District Council of Carpenters, ADCO Electric, WDF/Greene and Bromley Caldari Architects.

The Center for the Elimination of Violence in the Family
Thanks to the efforts of Foundation member Nab Construction, the Center for the Elimination of Violence in the Family benefited from a major renovation of its residential facility in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Nab upgraded the center's community room and dining area, including new lighting, a new ceiling, new flooring and painting. In addition, the Nab team solved a persistent flooding problem that had been damaging the building.

"The New York Building Foundation is proud of its ability to attract and marshal the diverse talents and energies of the industry toward projects that give back to the community. Given the enormous support from private companies and trade unions, we are confident that we will be undertaking more charitable endeavors in the near future."

-- John F. Hennessy, III New York Building Foundation Chairman
