Highlights $221B in Member Projects Across Empire State
The organization surveyed membership on more than 5,700 recent and ongoing construction
and development projects from the Long Island shore to Niagara Falls
NEW YORK (April 5, 2023) — Today, the New York Building Congress released its “New York Building Congress Across New York State Report,” a snapshot of the contribution to construction and development in New York State by the organization’s more than 500 members representing 250,000 skilled tradespeople and professionals.
The report provides an overview of the projects that bring with them hundreds of thousands of building industry jobs and billions of dollars in project valuation statewide. Building Congress members are advancing more than 5,700 projects across New York State valued at more than $221 billion.
“From our beginnings as an organization, the New York Building Congress has touched nearly every major project in the tri-state area,” said Carlo A. Scissura, Esq., President and CEO of the New York Building Congress. “This report is a testament to our members’ impact, and their ongoing commitment to maximize economic growth while delivering projects that redefine New York. We are proud to celebrate our members’ contributions to our state’s recovery and our industry’s success story and look forward to another historic year of advocating for and delivering projects that make New York stronger.”
The report serves as a representative snapshot of total construction activity happening across New York. The projects featured in the report encompass a diverse set of sectors, including infrastructure, housing, transportation, clean energy, healthcare facilities, educational and cultural institutions and more.
Among these significant projects, many are scheduled for completion in 2023, including the Albright-Knox-Gundlach Art Museum Expansion in Buffalo, the SUNY Oswego Hewitt Hall Renovation, the South Nassau Communities Hospital Modernization, the Port of Albany expansion, and airport upgrades and renovations statewide. All of the projects serve to highlight and complement the Building Congress’ organizational advocacy in the state capital to distribute necessary funding far and wide to ensure continued growth and development once these particular worksites have completed work. This includes an all-out effort to support Gov. Kathy Hochul’s commitment to build 800,000 new units of housing over the next decade.
