“Rebuilding America’s infrastructure is the rare public policy issue that unites voters across the ideological spectrum. The New York Building Congress is very pleased to learn that Leader Schumer, Speaker Pelosi, and President Trump have agreed to support a $2 trillion infrastructure spending package and emerged from today’s meeting finding common ground. In order to achieve a $2 trillion investment, we need a big and bold plan that will require compromises on both sides of the aisle. If we fail to invest now in roads, bridges, tunnels, railroads, our air travel system, and expanding broadband access, then we cannot guarantee our long-term economic development, productivity, and international competitiveness.
It is now important that all options, including an increase in the federal gas tax, remain on the table as negotiations shift toward revenue sources. The Building Congress will continue to advocate for creative funding solutions that will work to make this $2 trillion a reality.”
